Annotation. The relevance of the study of the socio-demographic characteristics of the population of Moscow is due to the special status of the capital as the largest metropolis in Russia, with a high concentration of human, economic, cultural and political capital. The population of Moscow forms a unique social space in which both nationwide demographic trends and specific urbanization processes are manifested, caused by high population density, migration, changes in the age and gender structure of the population, fertility and mortality rates. The analysis of socio-demographic characteristics makes it possible to identify key parameters of the urban environment development, understand the mechanisms of adaptation of the population to the conditions of the metropolis and assess the prospects for sustainable growth of the city. The socio-demographic structure of Muscovites has a direct impact on the functioning of urban infrastructure, the education and healthcare system, the labor market and housing policy. Therefore, the study of this topic acquires not only scientific, but also practical significance for public administration and social planning. Modern demographic processes in Moscow are highly dynamic: there are fluctuations in the population, active migration flows, changes in marriage rates, fertility and mortality. These processes are closely related to social and economic transformations, changes in the value system and lifestyle of the urban population. The birth rate in Moscow is lower than the national average. The demographic structure of Moscow demonstrates the trends towards the aging of the population. Migration processes have a significant impact on the population of the capital. The number of marriages is decreasing, but the number of divorces is increasing. The socio-demographic indicators of Moscow are characterized by higher stability compared to other regions of Russia.
